RE: [cpx] CPX Quirk -- Tom, Dick & Harry

Sorry, I have not jumped into VPSv3 waters yet. I missed that from your
earlier post.

Brian:

It appears that when an email is sent to a subdomain it won't forward.
At least not on my VPS3. To duplicate more easily, I have removed the
unnecessary complexity of multiple aliases from my earlier scenario.

To prove that it works when sent to a "domain":
. I created a user named "aaa" and put him in domain.com . I sent an email
to him at aaa@xxxxxxxxxx . As expected, it arrived just fine . Then "aaa"
changed his "mail forward" to zzz@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx . I sent a 2nd email to
him, the email was forwarded just fine . Everything worked as expected.

Important:
. For this to work I added an MX record for subdomain.domain.com . And I
left the MX record for domain.com there

To prove that it "does not" work when sent to a "subdomain":
. I created a user named "bbb" and put him in subdomain.domain.com . I sent
an email to him at bbb@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx . As expected, it arrived just
fine . Then "bbb" changed his "mail forward" to zzz@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx . I
sent a 2nd email to him, but it was "not" forwarded . It was delivered to
the "bbb" local folder instead.
. This was not as expected.

Notes:
. It works if I add "bbb: zzz@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" to the aliases file . But
end users are not able to hand edit that file . None of the above scenarios
made any updates to the "aliases" file . They must be using something I
haven't figured out, like procmail

Chuck Langenberg
