[cpx] New CPX webmail, etc. (cross-post)

Friends,

We've disted some new webmail code for CPX this afternoon (most of you
should have it by now) that (unless your box is slow generally) will
make *significant* improvements in the following areas.

Webmail Speedups
================

- listing folders (120% faster)
- listing folder contents (214% faster for 10MB mailboxes, and
  350% faster for 80MB mailboxes)
- loading messages (285% faster for 10MB attachments, and
  325% faster for 80MB attachments)

The new webmail can handle more messages, of larger sizes, in a
much shorter time than before.

Webmail MIME Multipart/Alternative Handling
===========================================

You'll notice that for MIME multipart/alternative messages (messages
with plain text and HTML in the message), a link will appear in the
grey bar above the message body allowing you to select your preferred
message view (plain or html). At some point this will also become a
user preference in the webmail "Message Display" options.

Email Address Listing Speedups
==============================

You may also have noticed that listing email addresses is also faster
(those changes were sent out earlier in November). My original tests
benchmarked the new email address listing running in about 1/90th of
the time of the previous version. If you only have a few dozen
addresses, you won't see much improvement due to web server overhead,
but if you have several hundred addresses, you'll notice significant
improvements immediately.

General Stability
=================

Significant developments in stability were also disted recently, which
should completely eliminate the "settings resetting" problems.

Near Future Performance Improvements
====================================

To whet your appetite a bit, later this month (or early January),
we'll be disting modules that will let you manage hundreds of users
(I loaded up 1000 users on my test account in about 30 seconds, which,
granted, isn't under any of the stress that physical servers have, but
is an order of magnitude more than current practical VPS v2 CPX
limits), and scores of domains (I haven't tested how many yet, but the
new code handles 50 domains without breaking a sweat).

Summary
=======

The changes we've pushed out for CPX today make it run much faster in
webmail and email address listing. Lost user settings (which turned
out to be a multiple-cause problem, which was why it was so hard to
track down) have been fixed. Soon we'll have user management and
domain management running faster also. If you've not used CPX for a
while because of performance or stability problems, please consider
giving it another try.
